SUMMARY:2nd open call for Route 1 expert (non-financial) support (OPEN)
DESCRIPTION:Support programme for repositories and data service providers\nThe FAIR Principles focus on characteristics of digital objects that make them Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable and Reusable. Achieving and maintaining those characteristics depends on the individuals and organisations that create\, store\, curate\, and preserve the objects. These activities are ‘FAIR-enabling’\, and repositories and data service providers play an important role in facilitating them. \nFAIR-IMPACT is here to help repositories and data service providers  assess your current FAIR-enabling capabilities and develop action plans to improve them. We will introduce you to services and tools that address a wide range of topics\, such as: \n\nRepository policy\, e.g. ACME-FAIR\, Data support policy for photon and neutron science;\nMaking objects in the repository more FAIR\, e.g. CESSDA Data Archiving Guide\, FAIR Cookbook;\nAutomated FAIR assessment\, e.g. F-UJI\, Framework for assessing FAIR services;\nRepository certification\, e.g. CoreTrustSeal+FAIRenabling Capability Maturity Model\, FAIRsFAIR repository support.\n\nWe go beyond the formal FAIR principles and also include guidance for effective strategies to engage with your community and position your organisation in the research landscape. In other words\, we are here to make your organisation more successful.

SUMMARY:RDA’s 22nd Plenary Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Research Data Alliance’s 22nd Plenary meeting (VP22) is now confirmed and will take place as a fully virtual event. Organised by the RDA Secretariat\, VP22 will be held for half-days spread across two weeks\, between 14-23 May 2024. \nWith the theme “Local Action – Global Connection”\, which also aligns with the four themes of RDA’s Strategic Plan\, the plenary will focus on collaboration and engagement with our global community through the sharing of local experiences\, best practices and  recommendations. \nWe invite individuals and groups at all stages of their careers to contribute to the discussions\, meet data professionals\, and get involved in the RDA community. Over the course of two weeks\, RDA Working and Interest Groups\, Communities of Practice and Birds of a Feather sessions will address the most significant challenges that data leaders face today\, presenting ongoing research that are building the fundamentals for data science. \nRegardless of where you are in the world\, you won’t need to travel anywhere! Join VP22 from the comfort of your preferred place. \nPlanning for the VP22 is underway\, and we look forward to sharing further details soon!

SUMMARY:The WorldFAIR Project: The journey so far and next steps
DESCRIPTION:This special double session co-located with the RDA Virtual Plenary 22 is designed to show case the outputs from the WorldFAIR project and to discuss next steps. The event is open to all; you do not need to be a member of the WorldFAIR consortium to join. \nWorldFAIR has a number of distinctive features that are worthy of attention and will be of interest to the RDA community.  WorldFAIR is a two-year European Commission funded project to advance the implementation of the FAIR principles.  Coordinated by CODATA and with the RDA as an important partner\, WorldFAIR has the distinction of being a genuinely global project and – thanks to special EC rules – has funded partners from around the world. \nThe core of the WorldFAIR project are the 11 case studies\, which represent a wide range of sciences\, communities and challenges\, with global geographical coverage. These were identified from groups active in CODATA\, RDA or both.  Among the partners in these case studies are number of organisations that play an important role in articulating and agreeing metadata and terminology standards for researchers in various domains. The first session will explore the outputs from these case studies and in particular the recommendations made.  A selection of the Case Studies will describe their work\, their experience of using FIPs and will articulate key recommendations for the use of metadata standards and terminologies and structured around the most important themes and issues encountered. \nThe second session will focus on one of the key outputs of WorldFAIR: the Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework (CDIF). CDIF provides a set of guidelines and practice for using domain-agnostic standards to support the interoperability and reusability of FAIR data\, especially across domain and institutional boundaries.  CDIF has been developed based on input from WorldFAIR’s 11 case studies\, including their FIPs\, a series of dedicated meetings\, and the participation of all the case studies in two successive workshops hosted at the Leibniz Foundation’s Dagstuhl Centre. Thirty invited experts have participated in drafting the CDIF guidelines\, including members of many related FAIR initiatives and standards bodies\, and has therefore\, drawn on significant expertise both within and outside the WorldFAIR project.  This session will present the key CDIF ‘modules’ which cover the most important functional areas for using data across domains: discovery\, integration\, controlled vocabularies and mappings\, provenance and process description\, temporal and spatial description\, etc. \nBoth sessions will invite feedback and discuss activities to continuing this work beyond the lifetime of the EC funded project under the banner of WorldFAIR+

SUMMARY:A Guide to FAIR Bioimage Data 2024
DESCRIPTION:Do you perform biological imaging and want to maximise the potential of your bioimaging data? \nJoin us for the second instalment of our free online workshop\, ‘Euro-BioImaging’s Guide to FAIR Bioimage Data\,’ on Thursday\, 23 May 2024\, from 14:00 to 17:00 CEST. \nEveryone is welcome! \nAbout the workshop\nIn this interactive online workshop we will introduce the FAIR principles in the context of bioimaging data. Designed for researchers across all scales of bioimaging\, from molecules to humans\, this workshop will provide simple yet effective steps for a smooth start to your FAIR journey. We will explore the benefits of FAIR data for molecular\, cellular as well as pre-clinical imaging and best practices for data management. \nFeaturing invited speakers from bioimaging repositories\, we will discuss what you can do with your data after publication. And if you want to take it one step further\, there will also be advanced sessions on cloud compatible next-generation file formats for image data. \nBy the end of the workshop\, you will no longer find FAIR to be an intimidating concept that you have been putting off. Instead\, you will be equipped with the knowledge and resources to identify and implement the necessary adjustments to bring your bioimaging data to the next level. \nRegister here:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0ldu2grz4pGdyUhJJgOLpml1elNcd1-Iyx \nSpecial offer – bring your own data:\nDo you have an imaging dataset related to COVID-19 or other infectious diseases and need support to make it FAIR? Bring your data and we will work together to apply the concepts of the workshop directly to your dataset\, free of charge thanks to funding from the BY-COVID project. \nTo apply\, simply fill out the registration form or contact us directly at fairdata@eurobioimaging.eu.
