SUMMARY:Series of webinars: The Data Act in contracts
DESCRIPTION:Help us develop model contractual terms for data sharing and standard contractual clauses for switching between data processing services (cloud computing contracts) by sharing your opinion. \n\n\n\nBefore the Data Act starts applying from 12 September 2025\, the Commission will recommend model contractual terms for data access and use and standard contractual clauses for cloud computing. The Commission has set up an Expert Group to develop these models\, which will form the basis for the Commission Recommendation in 2025. These models intend to help especially small and medium-size companies and other organisations which may lack resources to draft and negotiate fair contractual clauses for data sharing or for cloud computing. \nIn November and December 2024\, the Commission will be hosting a series of 6 webinars with businesses\, policymakers\, lawyers\, and experts to discuss the development of both the draft Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for cloud computing contracts and the draft Model Contractual Terms (MCTs) for data sharing. \nThe webinars are open to Member State authorities\, companies\, lawyers\, professors\, and organisations. You can register via the links below to take part in the discussions and help shape the contracts. Note that registrations will only be accepted if a professional email address is provided. \nFollowing registration\, participants will receive a Webex link and relevant documentation to support the discussion (including draft model terms and clauses) a few days before the event. \nWebinars\n20 November – Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)\nThis webinar will cover SCCs implementing the provisions of the Data Act: Switching and Exit\, Termination\, Security and business continuity. Registration fom \n21 November –  Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)\n\nThis webinar will cover SCCs on Liability\, Non-amendment\, Non-dispersion. Registration form \n27 November  – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThe topics covered in this webinar includes the contract between data holders and data users\, as well as the data use by the data holder\, arrangements for access to data by the user\, and transfer of the connected product to successors. Registration form \n28 November – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThe topics covered in this webinar includes the contract between data holders and data recipients but also the link with the user’s request\, the contract between the data recipient and the user\, as well as the ways in which data can be accessed by the data recipient. Registration form \n4 December – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThis webinar will cover the reasonable compensation for making data available agreed between data holders and data recipients under the Data Act\, as well as a possible compensation for the user in exchange of access and use of the data by the data holder in certain circumstances (for example when the user agrees not to share the data with other entities). Registration form \n5 December – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThis webinar covers voluntary data sharing and is relevant for bilateral or multilateral data sharing agreements but also for the use of MCTs in data spaces. Registration form

SUMMARY:RDA TIGER Cascading Grants
DESCRIPTION:1. Call description and supported activities\n\nThis open call seeks applications from individuals and legal entities that are eligible for Horizon Europe funding who wish to receive financial support to enhance the activities or the adoption of the results of the RDA Working Groups (WGs). This call invites the following types of applications: \n\n\n\nRDA WGs for projects that support the WG plan of action (at any stage of the WG lifecycle)\,  adoption or testing of the WG outputs. The grant funds can be used to cover the personnel and travel costs of the Group’s existing members\, stipends or salaries of new team members\, conference and open access fees and fees of external experts (e.g.\, to solve specific legal\, IPR or standardisation-related questions). See the section “Eligibility Criteria” for more details.\nOrganisations that wish to adopt an RDA output. Specifically\, the grant funds can be used to support the adoption\, testing\, harmonisation\, and/or implementation of RDA Recommendations or Outputs2.\nTechnical  Implementation\, prototyping and proof-of-concept using RDA recommendations to achieve interoperability of open science solutions\, especially in the EOSC context.\nRDA WGs launching a formal standardisation process to have the WG recommendations adopted or used as input by an established technical standards organisation.\n\n\n\nApplications are received up until 30 November 2024 (AoE)3. The selected projects are expected to be launched in early 2025 and need to be concluded by the end of October 2025. \n\n2. How is this call different from the Open Call for RDA TIGER services?\n\nThe RDA TIGER support services (Facilitation\, Communications\, Landscape Analysis\, Output Support) are provided by consortium members\, where the supported WGs receive services provided by the RDA TIGER project staff or experts engaged by the project partners. The Open Call for these types of support services is continuous and is facilitated by a separate process with four selection rounds per year. \n\n\nThis open call for cascading grants is intended to give the recipients more flexibility and a wider range of options in supporting the work of the WG\, including facilitating the adoption of WG outputs. Depending on the stage of your WG\, you can consider applying for various activities through the open call as described in section 1. \n\n\nImportant things to note:  \n\n\n\nProject(s) funded by this Open Call will need to be completed by the end of October 2025.\nThe standardisation-related grants are expected to present a roadmap that shows how the standardisation process can be completed after the completion of the activities funded by the grant.\n\n\n3. About RDA TIGER\n\nRDA TIGER is a project funded by the European Commission (GA 101094406). It supports RDA Working Groups that concretely align\, harmonise\, and standardise Open Science developments and technologies globally. The services it provides will facilitate and support coherent and consistent working group definitions and increase the impact of the key European initiatives on the global level. More information can be found at https://www.rd-alliance.org/rda-tiger/. \n\n\nThe project will directly contribute to the European Open Science Cloud Partnership by supporting (via the Working Groups) the international engagement and alignment of policies\, technologies\, methodologies\, practices and other outputs of EOSC-related and other European Open Science developments. \n\n4. Application process\n\nOne person should be selected as the grant holder and representative\, also in case of a consortium consisting of more than one legal entity applying for funding. To apply\, please take the following steps: \n\n\n\nDownload and fill in the Application Form (docx format)\, save the completed form a a PDF with the proposal name in the name of the time.\nRegister your proposal information using the online form.\nUpload the completed application to B2DROP using the link provided to you after you complete the proposal information entry.

SUMMARY:Call for inputs: Global Consultation on the Draft Principles of Open Science Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:As part of the ongoing efforts to advance open science monitoring in alignment with the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science\, UNESCO is calling for inputs and comments from all the regions and interested stakeholders on the Draft Principles for Open Science Monitoring.\nDeadline for inputs: 30 November 2024 \nBy adopting the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science\, countries made a collective commitment to transparency\, collaboration and inclusivity in the advancement of open science globally. \nThey also committed to regularly monitor and evaluate the impacts of open science policies\, mechanisms\, initiatives and incentives using a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches and to develop strategies to monitor the effectiveness and long-term efficiency of open science which include a multistakeholder participatory approach. \nAs demonstrated in the UNESCO Open Science Outlook (see “Monitoring openness and opening monitoring” below)\, open science is not an end in itself\, but a means towards fairer\, more equitable\, diverse and inclusive research systems globally. It is therefore important to understand and monitor the degree of openness of not only scientific articles or data but also across all the pillars of open science and across all the stages of the scientific cycle. A combination of open qualitative and quantitative assessments\, as well as innovations in the understanding of and response to change\, will be needed for a monitoring system for open science that itself adheres to the values and principles of open science.
