SUMMARY:International Open Access Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:We create and share knowledge in order to advance human understanding and the common good. We recognize that accessing and sharing knowledge is a human right. Yet\, the costs to access and share knowledge continue to increase\, often dramatically. Why? Who benefits? \nIncreasing consolidation and commercial control over all aspects of knowledge comes at a cost. This year’s theme challenges us to consider the financial\, human\, and environmental costs of creating\, sharing\, and sustaining knowledge—particularly when these costs are driven by private rather than public interests. Last year’s theme of “Who owns our knowledge?” reflected on the reality of commercial ownership of knowledge. This year’s theme will reckon with the costs of that reality and avenues for reclaiming control of these systems meant to serve the public interest.

SUMMARY:Open Science Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:Annotation:\nThe Open Science Working Group cordially invites you to Open Science Week 2026\, which will offer three days packed with current Open Science topics both in Czech and international contexts. \nThis year’s edition will focus on the diverse pathways to Open Science: from systemic conditions and institutional perspectives to inspiration from abroad\, as well as specific disciplinary practices and practical experience. The program will bring together librarians\, researchers\, data stewards\, project support staff\, institutional leaders\, and others who are professionally or otherwise engaged in Open Science or just wish to understand it better. \nYou can look forward to talks from experts\, panel discussions\, best practices exchange\, and practical demonstrations. Stay tuned for more information about the program. \nOrganizer:\nAssociation of Libraries of Czech Universities \nCo-organizers:\nBrno University of Technology\nCharles University\nCzech University of Life Sciences Prague\nLibrary of the Czech Academy of Sciences\nMasaryk University\nPrague University of Economics and Business\nUniversity of Hradec Králové

SUMMARY:Open science and the futures of research assessment
DESCRIPTION:This Futures Dialogue will explore how research assessment systems can evolve to reward openness\, collaboration\, and societal impact in line with open science principles \n\n\n\nOpen science is about ensuring that the benefits of science are shared across the world and that all communities can contribute to scientific development. While digital tools and infrastructure can greatly facilitate access to scientific knowledge\, open science also includes broad stakeholders and society’s engagement and dialogue with other knowledge systems. \nReform of research assessment is increasingly framed as a condition for open science rather than a parallel agenda. The UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science calls for barriers to open science to be removed\, particularly those arising from research and career evaluation and award systems\, and states that assessment rewarding good open science practices is “needed for operationalization of open science”. \nThis Futures Dialogue focuses on how research assessment reform can enable open science\, and what it would take to move from commitment to practice. Panel experts and members of UNESCO Chairs\, UNITWIN Networks\, National Commissions\, and other experts will address the following questions: \n\nWhich contributions to research go unrecognized in assessment today\, and what place should they have in the future of research assessment and science policies?\nHow do current assessment practices influence what researchers publish\, and with what consequences for researchers in different science systems?\nWhose research\, and what kinds of knowledge\, do current assessment systems leave out?\nWhich reforms have changed practices\, and which have stayed on paper? How would we know whether research assessment reforms are enabling open science?
