SUMMARY:Call for inputs: Global Consultation on the Draft Principles of Open Science Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:As part of the ongoing efforts to advance open science monitoring in alignment with the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science\, UNESCO is calling for inputs and comments from all the regions and interested stakeholders on the Draft Principles for Open Science Monitoring.\nDeadline for inputs: 30 November 2024 \nBy adopting the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science\, countries made a collective commitment to transparency\, collaboration and inclusivity in the advancement of open science globally. \nThey also committed to regularly monitor and evaluate the impacts of open science policies\, mechanisms\, initiatives and incentives using a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches and to develop strategies to monitor the effectiveness and long-term efficiency of open science which include a multistakeholder participatory approach. \nAs demonstrated in the UNESCO Open Science Outlook (see “Monitoring openness and opening monitoring” below)\, open science is not an end in itself\, but a means towards fairer\, more equitable\, diverse and inclusive research systems globally. It is therefore important to understand and monitor the degree of openness of not only scientific articles or data but also across all the pillars of open science and across all the stages of the scientific cycle. A combination of open qualitative and quantitative assessments\, as well as innovations in the understanding of and response to change\, will be needed for a monitoring system for open science that itself adheres to the values and principles of open science.
