This is your chance to collaborate with leading experts and make a lasting impact. \n  \nWhy Attend?\nThe EOSC EDEN project invites research data curation and long-term preservation experts to a hands-on workshop where we will: \n\nLay the foundations of a European Expert Curation Network.\nShare expertise\, experiences\, and best practices.\nBuild a collaborative vision for advancing data curation and long-term preservation across disciplines and repositories.\n\nThis workshop is the first of two events designed to bring together experts from diverse domains\, including organizations\, repositories (generalist/specialist)\, collections\, and digital object types. By establishing a European Expert Curation Network\, we aim to: \n\nAddress gaps in expertise and experience.\nProvide a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange.\nHarmonize curation practices across disciplines and repositories.\nEnsure data remains accessible and reusable as technology evolves.\n\nThis initiative is part of the EOSC EDEN project\, which will develop and establish a framework to identify what data are candidates for long-term preservation based on use\, benefit\, and quality and a model for re-appraisal points along data lifecycle and test usability. EOSC EDEN will identify practices to support the creation of curation\, long-term preservation\, and access strategies in Europe. SUMMARY:Open Science Conference 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Open Science Conference is an annual international conference dedicated to the Open Science movement. It provides a unique forum for researchers\, data stewards\, librarians\, practitioners\, infrastructure providers\, policy makers\, and other important stakeholders to discuss the latest and future developments in Open Science. In 2025\, the conference returns to its roots and takes place as a face-to-face event in Hamburg again. \nThis year’s conference will have a special focus on the intersection between Open Science and AI. The rapid integration of artificial intelligence and corresponding tools into scientific research poses both new challenges but also opportunities for Open Science practices. SUMMARY:4th Annual Forum for Open Research in MENA
DESCRIPTION:This year\, the Annual Forum will offer a mixture of individual presentations\, moderated round table discussions\, and workshops. As accessibility lies at the hearts of everything we do\, this will be a fully hybrid event\, with all in-person activities live streamed\, in English and Arabic. The programme will include a full day of online presentations\, two days of in-person presentations\, and a half day of high-impact workshops. \nReflecting the overarching message of last year’s Annual Forum concerning the need to collaborate as individuals\, as institutions\, as communities and countries – within our local environment and as a region – this year’s theme focuses on building our open science communities and developing our open science capacities. \nGiven the UAE has designated 2025 as the Year of Community\, we are therefore particularly delighted to be able to announce that this year’s Annual Forum\, will take place in the UAE\, in partnership with the American University of Sharjah. We are honoured to be partnering with this institution\, a regional leader for research and education in the Arab world. We are also excited to be able to host the Annual Forum in the Emirate of Sharjah\, which is home to so many of the region’s leading publishers and collaborative research and innovation centers.

DESCRIPTION:Program \n\n\n\nOverview \nThis workshop explores how ethical reflection\, legal regulation\, and responsible data use intersect in research practice in the age of AI and large language models (LLMs). \nParticipants will explore how principles such as ethics\, democracy\, and scientific integrity translate into concrete research practices with AI and data\, addressing issues like bias\, transparency\, and the responsibilities of universities and researchers. They will also discuss regulatory frameworks such as the EU AI Act and the Data Governance Act\, examining their implications for everyday research practices\, data access\, institutional compliance\, and scientific accountability.. \nA key theme is data governance: understanding data as both a research resource and a matter of power\, access\, and control. Participants will consider how data infrastructures shape knowledge and how ethical and legal principles can ensure fairness and trust in research. \nGuided by the idea of digital humanism and through interactive discussions\, participants will engage with real-world scenarios\, such as handling training data\, ensuring fairness in automated systems\, and aligning institutional practices with evolving EU regulations. \nWho is the trainer? \nMatthias C. Kettemann is Professor of Innovation\, Theory and Philosophy of Law and head of the Department for Theory and Future of Law at the University of Innsbruck. He leads the University’s Quantum Ethics Lab and heads research programmes at the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin and Leibniz Institute for Media Research in Hamburg. \n\n\n\n\n\nGoal \n\n\n\nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will: \n\nUnderstand the ethical and governance frameworks shaping the use of AI and data in research.\nGain insight into European regulatory developments and their relevance for scientific practice.\nReflect on their own role and responsibility as researchers in a datafied ecosystem.\nDevelop a critical understanding of digital humanism as a guiding idea for responsible\, human-centered innovation.\n\nThe workshop encourages researchers to act as ethical stewards of data and AI\, combining legal awareness\, normative reflection\, and scientific responsibility in the pursuit of good science. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrecondition \n\n\n\nWho can join? \nThis Workshop is organized for researchers affiliated with a Ludwig Boltzmann Institute\, a university or research organization in Austria.

SUMMARY:National Open Science Festival
DESCRIPTION:Open Science NL is delighted that the University of Groningen (UG) and the University Medical Center (UMCG) have generously offered to host this year’s festival. The one-day event will be held in the buildings of the UMCG. \nLike last year\, the festival is organised by a team with representatives from the host institution\, Open Science NL\, DANS\, and the National Coordination Point for Research Data Management (LCRDM). In addition\, the programme will be curated by an independent committee\, ensuring broad community representation. The programme committee will be chaired by Casper Albers\, dean of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences and chair of the steering committee of the Open Science Programme at the University of Groningen\, and Ana Ranitović\, chief of Open Science at the University of Groningen. \nPrevious editions of the festival were hosted by Wageningen University (2021\, online)\, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2022)\, Erasmus University Rotterdam (2023)\, and Maastricht University (2024). \nThe opening of registration will be announced via the festival’s communication channels and those of the participating organisations.
