SUMMARY:Marine User Days Conference
DESCRIPTION:The EUMETSAT Marine User Days will bring together existing and prospective users from across the diverse marine user community. Focusing on the data provided by the European organisations involved in the Copernicus programme and their role in oceanography and marine applications\, the event will act as a showcase for use cases. It is also a networking opportunity for users across the value chain\, and will feature a workshop to engage with user needs and feedback. \nEmphasis will be placed on data from across the value chain including satellite data\, derived products\, climate data records and their applications. Copernicus contributing mission data from EUMETSAT’s meteorological missions and data from the satellite application facility specialising in ocean and sea ice will broaden the scope. \nThe Marine User Days will be open to participation from across the community including those involved at the policy and governance level\, academia and research and commercial entities.  Attendees will benefit from the opportunity to present their use cases to the wider community of users and potential customers\, but also to the European Commission and Copernicus entrusted entity representatives. They will have to opportunity to discuss their use cases and needs with the latter.

SUMMARY:Blue-Cloud | General Assembly & Technical and Scientific Committee
DESCRIPTION:The Blue-Cloud 2026 team is gathering for its 4th General Assembly (GA) meeting and Technical and Scientific Committee (TSC) meeting\, which takes place at the Instituto Hidrográfico in Lisbon\, Portugal\, from 5 to 8 November 2024. This meeting offers the consortium a valuable opportunity to reflect on the progress made over the first two years of the project and to plan the upcoming activities necessary for the successful implementation of Blue-Cloud. \nAs part of the event\, the Blue-Cloud team also hosts the 1st Federation Workshop. The workshop aims to evaluate Blue-Cloud’s federated services in relation to the needs and challenges of other marine and climate research infrastructures. It will encourage discussions on the practical impact of open science federation. \nThe agenda is still under development\, but the main activities for each day are as follows: \n\n5 November 2024: General Assembly and internal meetings with Blue-Cloud partners\n6 November 2024: Federation Workshop\n7-8 November 2024: Technical and Scientific Committee meeting\n\nPlease note that registration for the General Assembly and Technical and Scientific Committee meetings is closed and is limited to Blue-Cloud 2026 members. If you are a member and have not yet registered\, please do so using this link.

SUMMARY:Blue-Cloud first federation workshop
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Overview\nThe Blue-Cloud Horizon Europe project is introducing a federated model where Blue research infrastructures (RIs) and other data and service infrastructures and technological providers make their services available to the community via agreed\, FAIR formats and technology that the Open Science Community in Europe (under the umbrella of EOSC) recommends or accepts. \nThe Blue-Cloud collaborative environment allows researchers to retrieve marine data\, exploit them in the VRE\, access distributed cloud resources\, exploit analytical services and interdisciplinary Virtual Labs. Blue-Cloud is offering e-infrastructure services (computing\, storage\, analytics\, SSO\, AAI\, generic service)\, a data discovery service (10M+ datasets and products from European marine infrastructures such as EMODnet\, SeaDataNet\, Copernicus\, Ecotaxa and others)\, and research-intensive virtual labs\, embedded in a Virtual Research Environment open to any users with federated identity to the marine research community in Europe (and beyond). \nIn this workshop\, we aim at assessing Blue-Cloud federated services towards the needs and challenges of other research infrastructures active in marine and climate research\, ultimately stimulating a debate around the impact of open science federation in practice. \nWho is this workshop for\nThe Blue-Cloud first federation workshop is by invitation. Invited participants are the Blue Data Infrastructures contributing to the  Blue-Cloud service offer\, and managers\, decision makers\, service and data providers at other Research Infrastructures (RIs)\, projects and initiatives working on marine\, environmental and climate related topics. \nRegister now \nWorkshop Draft Agenda\nSession 1 Blue-Cloud federated service offer\n6 November 2024\, 09:00 – 13:00 CET\n\n\n\nTime\nSession title\n\n\n\n\n09:00 – 09.15\nWelcome & Introduction\n\n\n09:15 . 09:30\nRIs & projects tour de table\n\n\n\n09.30 – 10:30\n\n\nBlue-Cloud core federated services\n\n\n\n09:30 – 09.45\nBlue Cloud VRE  \nand its comprehensive suite of services and tools\, including cloud storage\, computing resources\, collaborative workspaces\, R-Studio\, JupyterHub\, JupyterLab\, Galaxy\, a Software Importer\, an Analytics Engine\, to empower researchers to create and manage Virtual Labs\n\n\n09:45 – 10:00\nBlue Cloud Collaborative Data Analytics as a Service \nStreamlined platforms for executing complex data analysis tasks and workflows.\n\n\n10:00 – 10:15\nBlue Cloud Community-Driven Catalogue \nA dynamic data repository that facilitate the publication and discovery of valuable marine research resources\, aligning with FAIR principles\n\n\n10:15 – 10:30\nOpen discussion\n\n\n\n10:30 – 11:15\n\n\nBlue-Cloud Data Discovery services\n\n\n\n10:30 – 10:45\nDD&AS (metadata federation approach) \nA gateway to a vast repository of marine data\,providing seamless discovery and retrieval of datasets and products from diverse Blue Data Infrastructures.\n\n\n10:45 – 11:00\nBeacon technology\n\n\n11:00 – 11:15\nOpen discussion\n\n\n11:15 – 11:45\nCoffee break\n\n\n\n11:45 – 12:30\n\n\nOverview of Blue-Cloud Federated thematic services\n\n\n\n11:45 – 12:30\nPresentations from some of the operational services available in the Blue-Cloud federated environment\n\n\n12:30 – 13:00\nQ&A and moderated debate around reusability of those services\n\n\n\n  \nSession 2  Assessing federation at thematic level\n6 November 2024\, 14:30 – 17:00 CET\n\n\n\nTime\nSession title\n\n\n\n\n\n14:30 – 15:30\n\n\nInvited presentations of federated services\n\n\n\n\n15:30 – 16:00\n\n\nOpen discussion on common challenges and sharing of services\n\n\n\n\n16:00 – 17:00\n\n\nTowards an EOSC Federation: discussion about EOSC EU Node federation\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Empowering Europe’s Green Deal: Open Science Skills and Taxonomy for sustainable innovation
DESCRIPTION:For policy-makers\, this event offers a unique opportunity to understand how Open Science skills can enhance evidence-based decision-making across various domains. The focus on taxonomy provides a tangible example of how these skills can be applied to support key policy areas such as biodiversity conservation and the implementation of the EU Green Deal. The event also aims to gather other major categories of stakeholders including organisations in the area of Citizen Science\, education and training\, private sector and research. The event will open pathways to understand how the fundamental sciences centred around taxonomic research and the overarching principle of open science can largely contribute to societal advances.
