SUMMARY:OSCA Perspectives - From Institutional Commitment towards National and European Infrastructures
DESCRIPTION:The OSCA (Open Scientific Collections Austria) consortium is an association of natural science museums and university collections with the aim of building up skills and capacities for the digitization of natural science collections in Austria. The consortium will meet from September 11th to 12th\, 2025\, at the Natural History Museum in Vienna to discuss perspectives related to the digital transformation of natural science collections. In 2025\, Austria will also become part of the European Research Infrastructure DiSSCo (Distributed System of Scientific Collections) as an early adopter\, with the goal of establishing a federated European Infrastructure as a powerful tool for data-intensive research based on real world collection objects.\nOn the first day the talks will focus on the processes involved from institutional commitment towards national and European infrastructures. Various infrastructures will be presented and talks will outline the overall visions\, emphasizing the richness and contextualization within the landscape of Research Infrastructures.\nOn the second day\, a hands-on workshop and interactive training will give the opportunity to work on data transfer from institutions to the OSCA Cache\, the national data aggregation node for DiSSCo. \n\n\n\n\nThe conference is free of charge. DESCRIPTION:The ENRIO 2025 Congress in Ljubljana will continue the newly established series of biennial events addressing research integrity practice (RI) and the development of responsible research in Europe. ENRIO 2025 is organised by the European Network of Research Integrity Offices (ENRIO) and University of Ljubljana\, Slovenia. \nThe Congress is aimed at all experts in research integrity and research ethics\, RI officers and practitioners\, members of ethics and investigation committees\, representatives of research funding organisations and sponsors\, and all interested and involved in the enhancement and sustainable implementation of good RI practices and policies. \nThematically\, the Congress will emphasise power dynamics in research and institutional responsibility to foster an open\, safe and inclusive research environment as a foundation for RI in everyday practice. In a broader global context\, this also implies the recognition of fairness\, equity and diversity as essential components of RI\, as outlined in the Cape Town Statement of 2022. DESCRIPTION:Since 2005 the Association for the Development of Information Society jointly with the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Science launched the EIS conference (Education in the Information Society). Initially\, it was intended to serve as a forum attracting educational topics capturing the fast development of learning technologies but in 2013 it was rebranded to Education and Research in the Information Society (ERIS). During that initial period various topics on emerging technologies such as E-learning and education support systems\, Serious games and virtual reality\, Web technologies and cloud computing\, Social networks and security of the Web environment\, User modelling and user-adaptive systems\, Natural language processing and information retrieval\, Big data management and analysis\, Knowledge discovery from data and text\, Approaches for addressing cultural diversity and users with special needs\, Innovative systems for e-governance\, e-health and e-libraries\, Social and legal aspects of the information society were discussed.\nThe forum targeted mainly leading research from Bulgarian academic institutions\, adding to the programme contributions by invited speakers.\nResponding to the interest beyond Bulgaria\, since 2021 the ERIS conference was again updated with a new look and structure\, and a vision to become again one of the leading computer science events in South-Eastern Europe. \nThe conference has several strengths: \n\nPossibility to publish your work.\nUseful feedback: The conference follows a thorough review process – each paper is reviewed by two members of the international programme committee.\nReasonable registration fees: Being supported by ADIS\, the conference also has a very moderate conference fee.\nOffering state-of-the-art content: the cycle for submitting and selecting papers is compact which allows project research with new results to be presented very expediently.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:This year\, the Annual Forum will offer a mixture of individual presentations\, moderated round table discussions\, and workshops. As accessibility lies at the hearts of everything we do\, this will be a fully hybrid event\, with all in-person activities live streamed\, in English and Arabic. The programme will include a full day of online presentations\, two days of in-person presentations\, and a half day of high-impact workshops. \nReflecting the overarching message of last year’s Annual Forum concerning the need to collaborate as individuals\, as institutions\, as communities and countries – within our local environment and as a region – this year’s theme focuses on building our open science communities and developing our open science capacities. \nGiven the UAE has designated 2025 as the Year of Community\, we are therefore particularly delighted to be able to announce that this year’s Annual Forum\, will take place in the UAE\, in partnership with the American University of Sharjah. DESCRIPTION:Program \n\n\n\nOverview \nThis workshop explores how ethical reflection\, legal regulation\, and responsible data use intersect in research practice in the age of AI and large language models (LLMs). \nParticipants will explore how principles such as ethics\, democracy\, and scientific integrity translate into concrete research practices with AI and data\, addressing issues like bias\, transparency\, and the responsibilities of universities and researchers. They will also discuss regulatory frameworks such as the EU AI Act and the Data Governance Act\, examining their implications for everyday research practices\, data access\, institutional compliance\, and scientific accountability.. \nA key theme is data governance: understanding data as both a research resource and a matter of power\, access\, and control. Participants will consider how data infrastructures shape knowledge and how ethical and legal principles can ensure fairness and trust in research. \nGuided by the idea of digital humanism and through interactive discussions\, participants will engage with real-world scenarios\, such as handling training data\, ensuring fairness in automated systems\, and aligning institutional practices with evolving EU regulations. \nWho is the trainer? \nMatthias C. Kettemann is Professor of Innovation\, Theory and Philosophy of Law and head of the Department for Theory and Future of Law at the University of Innsbruck. SUMMARY:National Open Science Festival
DESCRIPTION:Open Science NL is delighted that the University of Groningen (UG) and the University Medical Center (UMCG) have generously offered to host this year’s festival. The one-day event will be held in the buildings of the UMCG. \nLike last year\, the festival is organised by a team with representatives from the host institution\, Open Science NL\, DANS\, and the National Coordination Point for Research Data Management (LCRDM). In addition\, the programme will be curated by an independent committee\, ensuring broad community representation. The programme committee will be chaired by Casper Albers\, dean of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences and chair of the steering committee of the Open Science Programme at the University of Groningen\, and Ana Ranitović\, chief of Open Science at the University of Groningen. \nPrevious editions of the festival were hosted by Wageningen University (2021\, online)\, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2022)\, Erasmus University Rotterdam (2023)\, and Maastricht University (2024). \nThe opening of registration will be announced via the festival’s communication channels and those of the participating organisations.

SUMMARY:Leibniz Open Science Day 2025: “Better Science for Better Policies”
DESCRIPTION:ZBW ─ Leibniz Information Centre for Economics\, DIW Berlin (the German Institute for Economic Research)\, WZB (Berlin Social Science Center)\, and RWI ─ Leibniz Institute for Economic Research are pleased to invite to the Leibniz Open Science Day 2025: Better Science for Better Policies.  \nWith the growing importance of the social sciences in addressing societal challenges\, the significance of a meta-scientific perspective is also increasingly on the rise. We need a deeper understanding of how evidence is generated and communicated to society and policymakers. \nReplications and meta-studies in particular are becoming increasingly crucial to ensure the reliability and validity of scientific research findings. These approaches help identify heterogeneities and biases\, improve methodological standards\, and foster transparency\, ultimately enhancing the credibility of scientific knowledge.

SUMMARY:Open Science in the light of geopolitical polarisation
DESCRIPTION:The current geopolitical landscape is characterised by rising political and trade tensions as well as heightened economic interest in scientific innovation. This polarisation has significant implications for the global scientific community\, particularly in the pursuit of Open Science. Could the naivety of science be exploited? Where is the line between scientific idealism and naivety? \nAs major global powers engage in systemic rivalries\, the conduct of science is increasingly influenced by national security concerns\, export controls\, and sanctions that can restrict the free flow of ideas\, data\, and researchers across borders. Meanwhile\, global challenges such as pandemics\, climate change\, and technology-based development require international scientific collaboration and universal knowledge development. The normative nature of the scientific ethos is increasingly in tension with political forces that demand that science be both vigilant and competitive. \nHow can Open Science – with its emphasis on transparency\, collaboration\, efficiency and validity of scientific results – be sustained in the light of these competing interests? \nDuring this year’s Open Science Days\, we will explore these tensions by discussing the interrelations of Open Science\, political interests\, and innovation. We will ask how research organizations can reconcile Open Science policies with resilience and competitiveness. \n\n\nAbout Open Science Days\nThe Open Science Days (OSD) are periodically organised by the Max Planck Digital Library. \nIn the context of this conferences we deal with various aspects of a global movement towards a more open\, transparent and reproducible approach to science. Aside from invited expert talks\, participants get the opportunity to present their own ideas\, experiences\, initiatives or activities in a Lightning Talk session. It is an open discussion platform around current Open Science developments. \nThe hybrid event is directed at researchers and specialists outside the Max Planck Society as well as within. It is for anyone\, who is interested in an interdisciplinary communication about Open Science.

DESCRIPTION:For research assessment to truly support Open Science\, we must prioritise transparency\, inclusivity\, and fairness in how we recognise research activities and contributions. This means not only ensuring that all contributions to Open Science are valued but also promoting openness in the data\, tools\, services\, and other resources used in the assessment process. \nWe invite you to our Conference on Opening Research Assessment\, where we will present the results of the GraspOS project and engage in discussions on transforming research assessment into a system that is open\, responsible and aligned with the principles of Open Science. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe GraspOS project supports the emerging policy reforms and paves the way for a responsible research assessment system that is fully aware of and integrated with Open Science practices. GraspOS focuses on developing\, assessing\, and operating an open federated infrastructure designed to aggregate open resources that can catalyse the implementation of relevant policy reforms. \nThe Conference will not only showcase the key outcomes and insights of the project\, but will also feature invited talks and expert panels addressing critical topics for advancing a responsible research assessment system that fully embraces Open Science principles including: \n\n\n\nOpen infrastructures for responsible research assessment\nTransparency and inclusivity of the assessment processes\nRecognition of contributions to Open Science \n\n\n\nWe also invite poster contributions aligned with these themes by anyone interested. Guidelines on how to submit a contribution for the Poster Session are available below.

DESCRIPTION:In der International Love Data Week\, in der dieses Jahr die Frage “Where’s the data?” diskutiert werden soll\, gibt es an der Universität Graz eine ganztägige Veranstaltung zu diesem Thema. In der Keynote\, welche die Vortragsreihe am Vormittag (9:00-13:00) eröffnet\, wird Verantwortung\, Wartbarkeit und Langzeitdenken am Beispiel eines DH Urgesteins – der Mittelhochdeutschen Begriffsdatenbank – thematisiert. Dabei stellen die Vortragenden KI-gestützte Arbeitsmethoden vor\, zeigen auf\, dass KI Forschung zwar unterstützen kann\, Forschungspersonal aber nie ersetzen wird und stellen fest\, dass offene\, menschenlesbare Standards wie XML durchaus kein Rückschritt sind\, sondern der Schlüssel für digitale Zukunftsfähigkeit. Here\, we encourage collective analysis and visioning for the potential of citizen science to reduce inequalities between centres of power and scientific attention and their associated hinterlands (which may indeed have little geographic distance between them). The theme invites reflections on how citizen science acts as a bridge across geographic\, cultural\, social and institutional divides. Doing so invites contributions that consider the ability of citizen science to work towards sustainability\, support evidence-based decision-making\, improve public health\, engage with political and legal frameworks\, promote integrated resource management\, and honour cultural and historical contexts. \nIn light of ongoing global challenges\, we invite scholars\, practitioners\, and community actors to assess the current state of citizen science — giving attention to emerging directions and pressing challenges\, and to promising opportunities for the forms of critical\, engaged work that have long shaped the practice. \nDimensions\n\nChallenges and opportunities of citizen science across centres and peripheries\nWhat are the specific challenges and opportunities of implementing citizen science in contexts that are socially\, geographically\, institutionally\, or scientifically distant from centres of power? How can citizen science serve as a tool for inclusion\, innovation\, and transformation in areas or fields that are often overlooked or underrepresented?\nCitizen science and inclusion: reaching marginalised communities\nHow can citizen science empower and engage marginalised communities in scientific research and decision-making processes — if at all? What conditions are necessary to ensure that such engagement is meaningful\, respectful\, and equitable? What potential impacts — both positive and negative — can citizen science have on marginalised communities\, and how can these be addressed or leveraged for lasting benefit? Is citizen science an appropriate or welcome framework\, particularly where dominant or Eurocentric models may risk reinforcing unequal power dynamics? And if so\, how might citizen science be reimagined to centre diverse forms of knowledge\, representation\, and community agency?\nCitizen science across borders\nHow can citizen science foster collaboration across different kinds of borders and frontiers — including geopolitical\, disciplinary\, organizational\, or cultural? What role can it play in connecting diverse knowledge systems and enabling inclusive\, equitable\, and cooperative approaches to research\, learning\, and action?\nCitizen science in extreme conditions and situations of crisis\nHow can citizen science be mobilised in challenging or high-risk contexts — from remote environments and polar regions to situations of conflict\, environmental disaster\, or public health emergencies\, which might be familiar to practitioners but in which academic researchers may hesitate to tread? What strategies support safe and effective participation\, resilient data collection\, and sustained knowledge co-production when institutional\, logistical\, or technological infrastructures are disrupted?\nCitizen science and Indigenous knowledges and practices\nHow can citizen science contribute to the respectful co-creation of knowledge with Indigenous communities? How can projects be designed in ways that are ethical\, collaborative\, and supportive of Indigenous perspectives\, values\, and knowledge systems — while safeguarding sovereignty and cultural integrity?\nOther compelling dimensions of citizen science\nWhat other emerging\, overlooked\, or unconventional dimensions of citizen science deserve greater attention? We welcome contributions that challenge current assumptions\, explore new scientific\, methodological\, or societal frontiers\, or reimagine how citizen science can engage with communities\, technologies\, and institutions.

DESCRIPTION:The Open Science Retreat Global Edition is a week full of scientific discussions and reflections\, getting work done\, making new friends and resetting. \nThe Retreat follows an unconference model. Except for the plenary sessions\, all activities are optional. \nThis year\, we will host one session of lightning talks for you to present your research in. We are aware that it can be difficult to attend an event with an unconventional agenda and therefore would like to offer a slot that fulfills more traditional academic criteria. DESCRIPTION:ASHPC26 will continue the tradition of the annual Austrian HPC Meetings (2015–2020) and the Austrian-Slovenian HPC Meetings (2021–2025) bringing together users and providers of large-scale computing resources for both academic and non-academic research and development. \nASHPC26 will focus on various aspects of High-Performance Computing (HPC) and provides a great opportunity to discuss HPC-related topics and present your latest results. It will also provide an overview and update on the rapidly improving AI and HPC landscape available to European researchers and serve as a platform for exchanging experiences related to the usage and operation of large-scale computing resources and the challenges encountered. \nCentral European NCCs Workgroup Meeting – CE-NCCs-WG\, 7 April 2026\nOn Tuesday\, 7 April 2026\, in the afternoon preceding ASHPC26\, there will be a Central European NCCs Workgroup Meeting (for NCC / EuroCC 3 staff only) where the National Competence Centres (NCCs) address their most challenging topics and further regional collaboration.
