SUMMARY:Tag der guten Daten
\n  \nVeranstaltungslink: https://forschungsdatenmanagement.uni-graz.at/de/veranstaltungen/tag-der-guten-daten-2026/ \n  \nAnmeldung:  https://ub.uni-graz.at/de/beratung-kurse/kurse-veranstaltungen/veranstaltungen/tag-der-guten-daten-2026/

SUMMARY:ECSA 2026
DESCRIPTION:The ECSA 2026 conference is framed around the notion of Citizen Science bridging Centre and Periphery. This theme explores the diversity of contexts in which citizen science unfolds — from urban metropolitan hubs to remote northern and southern spaces — and emphasizes its role as a link between centre and periphery. Here\, we encourage collective analysis and visioning for the potential of citizen science to reduce inequalities between centres of power and scientific attention and their associated hinterlands (which may indeed have little geographic distance between them). The theme invites reflections on how citizen science acts as a bridge across geographic\, cultural\, social and institutional divides. Doing so invites contributions that consider the ability of citizen science to work towards sustainability\, support evidence-based decision-making\, improve public health\, engage with political and legal frameworks\, promote integrated resource management\, and honour cultural and historical contexts. \nIn light of ongoing global challenges\, we invite scholars\, practitioners\, and community actors to assess the current state of citizen science — giving attention to emerging directions and pressing challenges\, and to promising opportunities for the forms of critical\, engaged work that have long shaped the practice. \nDimensions\n\nChallenges and opportunities of citizen science across centres and peripheries\nWhat are the specific challenges and opportunities of implementing citizen science in contexts that are socially\, geographically\, institutionally\, or scientifically distant from centres of power? How can citizen science serve as a tool for inclusion\, innovation\, and transformation in areas or fields that are often overlooked or underrepresented?\nCitizen science and inclusion: reaching marginalised communities\nHow can citizen science empower and engage marginalised communities in scientific research and decision-making processes — if at all? What conditions are necessary to ensure that such engagement is meaningful\, respectful\, and equitable? What potential impacts — both positive and negative — can citizen science have on marginalised communities\, and how can these be addressed or leveraged for lasting benefit? Is citizen science an appropriate or welcome framework\, particularly where dominant or Eurocentric models may risk reinforcing unequal power dynamics? And if so\, how might citizen science be reimagined to centre diverse forms of knowledge\, representation\, and community agency?\nCitizen science across borders\nHow can citizen science foster collaboration across different kinds of borders and frontiers — including geopolitical\, disciplinary\, organizational\, or cultural? What role can it play in connecting diverse knowledge systems and enabling inclusive\, equitable\, and cooperative approaches to research\, learning\, and action?\nCitizen science in extreme conditions and situations of crisis\nHow can citizen science be mobilised in challenging or high-risk contexts — from remote environments and polar regions to situations of conflict\, environmental disaster\, or public health emergencies\, which might be familiar to practitioners but in which academic researchers may hesitate to tread? What strategies support safe and effective participation\, resilient data collection\, and sustained knowledge co-production when institutional\, logistical\, or technological infrastructures are disrupted?\nCitizen science and Indigenous knowledges and practices\nHow can citizen science contribute to the respectful co-creation of knowledge with Indigenous communities? How can projects be designed in ways that are ethical\, collaborative\, and supportive of Indigenous perspectives\, values\, and knowledge systems — while safeguarding sovereignty and cultural integrity?\nOther compelling dimensions of citizen science\nWhat other emerging\, overlooked\, or unconventional dimensions of citizen science deserve greater attention? We welcome contributions that challenge current assumptions\, explore new scientific\, methodological\, or societal frontiers\, or reimagine how citizen science can engage with communities\, technologies\, and institutions.

SUMMARY:PATTERNs of Change: Building an Open and Responsible Future for European Research
DESCRIPTION:The PATTERN project is happy to invite you to attend its final event: PATTERNs of Change: Building an Open and Responsible Future for European Research. \nJoin policymakers\, research organisations\, SMEs and EU-funded projects to reflect on how we can scale up open and responsible research and innovation (Open RRI) across Europe and to share what actually works (and what doesn’t) in real-life implementation. \nThe programme\nMorning: Policy-oriented sessions (09:00–13:00) \nA high-level roundtable and a practical outreach workshop focused on aligning researchers’ needs with EU-driven policies and strengthening Open RRI practices. \nAfternoon: Story Slam Session with Sister Projects (14:30–15:30) \nA short\, fun and refreshingly honest format: projects share an “unsuccessful” story (something that didn’t go to plan\, a failed approach\, a lesson learned)  and the presentation must include a MEME. \nAfternoon: Walkthrough poster session and networking (15:30–16:30) \nA dedicated space to showcase posters and dissemination materials\, walk around\, connect and exchange ideas. Feel free to bring posters\, roll-ups\, flyers\, postcards\, or any other comms materials you’d like to share. \nLearn more and register here!

SUMMARY:FOR2026 Conference: The Future of Open Research: Reliable\, Responsible\, Equitable
DESCRIPTION:The future of open research is uncertain. On the one hand\, decades of activism and institutional support have placed the value and significance of intelligent strategies and formats for open research (and its dissemination) beyond doubt. Openness is central to the development of trustworthy\, accountable\, collaborative\, and socially engaged knowledge. On the other hand\, open research measures need to be tailored to diverse research conditions around the globe and across domains\, which in turn requires substantial investment\, local engagement\, responsiveness to the ethical and social dimensions of inquiry\, and attention to diversity\, equity\, and inclusion. \nWhile the implementation of open science principles is certainly facilitated by ever more accessible digital technologies and training programmes\, for many researchers around the world\, acquiring the expertise and skills to engage in open research practices remains elusive. Exposure to open research initiatives often happens as an end-user rather than as an active contributor. This is because well-resourced environments produce the tools\, set the research goals\, define the standards and methods\, which leads to them benefiting disproportionally from the opportunities. This makes even the best-intentioned projects into opportunities for the best-resourced environments (which are often in charge of producing open science tools) to impose their own understanding of research goals\, standards\, and methods on everybody else. Therefore\, without domain- and location-specific input\, the risk is that open research amplifies existing inequities and discrimination in the production\, use\, and evaluation of knowledge\, thereby inflicting damage to the research system instead of the promised improvements. And this is not to mention the ongoing debates over how politically unpalatable open science may be\, the extent to which open research has been appropriated by commercial entities such as large publishing companies and digital platforms\, the fraught intersection between open science and artificial intelligence\, and the ongoing difficulties in supporting and maintaining open research activities and tools in the long term. \nThis conference brings together scholars\, activists\, and policymakers to consider this challenging landscape and discuss the future of open research. Our goal is to facilitate the development of open research practices explicitly geared to serve the public interest\, which involves interrogating what may constitute that ‘public interest’ to different audiences and in different locations around the world. A central element for our discussions will be the development of a Munich Manifesto for Equitable Open Research\, detailing ways to utilise open research to foster reliable\, responsible\, and equitable forms of inquiry. A draft text of the manifesto will be circulated two weeks before the conference to all participants\, and one session of the conference will be dedicated to discussing and finalising the declaration and its possible signatories. \nWe call for contributions by researchers across all fields of knowledge\, including the arts and humanities\, policy-makers interested in research and development\, representatives of scholarly and commercial institutions involved in research\, and civil society associations engaged in knowledge production.

SUMMARY:Sprache / Macht / Daten
DESCRIPTION:Wie sprechen wir über unsere Welt?

SUMMARY:KU Leuven Open Science Day
DESCRIPTION:Open Science is an integral part of today’s research. It encompasses a wide range of practices and outputs across all stages of the research lifecycle. For instance\, researchers share their publications via repositories\, publish in Open Access journals\, and disseminate early findings through preprints. They make their data FAIR\, preregister their research protocols\, and engage the public through Citizen Science initiatives. \nChallenges include selecting the most appropriate channel for publishing research\, considering the economic implications of this choice\, as well as managing the learning curve and time investment required to implement certain Open Science principles. At the same time\, researchers must navigate various considerations\, including GDPR compliance\, intellectual property rights\, and research security. KU Leuven is committed to Open Science\, guided by the principle: “as open as possible\, as closed as necessary.” \nThe Open Science Day is an opportunity for researchers of the KU Leuven Association to take part in this discussion\, to showcase their own Open Science efforts\, to shed a light on difficulties they might encounter\, to share experiences and solutions.
