SUMMARY:Series of webinars: The Data Act in contracts
DESCRIPTION:Help us develop model contractual terms for data sharing and standard contractual clauses for switching between data processing services (cloud computing contracts) by sharing your opinion. \n\n\n\nBefore the Data Act starts applying from 12 September 2025\, the Commission will recommend model contractual terms for data access and use and standard contractual clauses for cloud computing. The Commission has set up an Expert Group to develop these models\, which will form the basis for the Commission Recommendation in 2025. These models intend to help especially small and medium-size companies and other organisations which may lack resources to draft and negotiate fair contractual clauses for data sharing or for cloud computing. \nIn November and December 2024\, the Commission will be hosting a series of 6 webinars with businesses\, policymakers\, lawyers\, and experts to discuss the development of both the draft Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for cloud computing contracts and the draft Model Contractual Terms (MCTs) for data sharing. \nThe webinars are open to Member State authorities\, companies\, lawyers\, professors\, and organisations. You can register via the links below to take part in the discussions and help shape the contracts. Note that registrations will only be accepted if a professional email address is provided. \nFollowing registration\, participants will receive a Webex link and relevant documentation to support the discussion (including draft model terms and clauses) a few days before the event. \nWebinars\n20 November – Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)\nThis webinar will cover SCCs implementing the provisions of the Data Act: Switching and Exit\, Termination\, Security and business continuity. Registration fom \n21 November –  Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)\n\nThis webinar will cover SCCs on Liability\, Non-amendment\, Non-dispersion. Registration form \n27 November  – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThe topics covered in this webinar includes the contract between data holders and data users\, as well as the data use by the data holder\, arrangements for access to data by the user\, and transfer of the connected product to successors. Registration form \n28 November – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThe topics covered in this webinar includes the contract between data holders and data recipients but also the link with the user’s request\, the contract between the data recipient and the user\, as well as the ways in which data can be accessed by the data recipient. Registration form \n4 December – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThis webinar will cover the reasonable compensation for making data available agreed between data holders and data recipients under the Data Act\, as well as a possible compensation for the user in exchange of access and use of the data by the data holder in certain circumstances (for example when the user agrees not to share the data with other entities). Registration form \n5 December – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThis webinar covers voluntary data sharing and is relevant for bilateral or multilateral data sharing agreements but also for the use of MCTs in data spaces. Registration form

SUMMARY:RDA TIGER Cross-Fertilisation Webinar Series – Semantic Interoperability
DESCRIPTION:RDA TIGER is pleased to announce an upcoming series of webinars on cross-fertilisation and knowledge-sharing between RDA Working Groups across different domains. Each of the three webinars will be thematically focused\, allowing WGs to share their work with peers and identify shared challenges and opportunities for further collaboration. \n\n\nWe’re inviting anyone with an interest in the specific activities of RDA Working Groups\, in the topics and themes to be discussed\, or in the planned outcomes of these Working Groups to join us for this series\, where there will be an opportunity to ask about any aspects of the WGs’ activities. \n\nREGISTER\n\nWebinar #1 – Semantic Interoperability \n\n\nThe first of the series will take place on Wednesday 27th November at 09:30 UTC and will focus on the theme of ‘Semantic Interoperability’. Presenting at the webinar will be the co-chairs of the FAIR Mappings WG\, the Alignment of Multilingual Vocabularies in the Social Sciences and Humanities WG\, and the InteroperAble Descriptions of Observable Property Terminology (I-ADOPT) WG. \n\n\n\nThe FAIR Mappings WG\, which is in the final stages of RDA Council endorsement\, will present its preliminary work so far\, focusing on the various communities and the RDA WGs which have generated mappings\, with the aim to converge toward common guidelines to make different types of mappings FAIR\, and a common machine-readable/actionable set of representations of the mappings beyond the capabilities of the current existing specifications.\nThe Alignment of Multilingual Vocabularies in the Social Sciences and Humanities WG\, which has been endorsed by RDA Council and has recently started its regular meeting schedule\, will present on how it intends to address challenges concerning the interoperability multilingual nature of SSH controlled vocabularies by providing collectively approved recommendations for creating\, extending\, updating\, and aligning multilingual vocabularies in the SSH.\nThe I-ADOPT WG is currently working to to embed the I-ADOPT framework in existing standards to demonstrate its capability in promoting interoperability\, also seeking examples of the I-ADOPT framework in different scientific areas. The WG is planning a close collaboration with the FAIR Mappings WG in its planned activities\, demonstrating the potential impact that collaboration within RDA can have.\n\n\n\nFuture instalments of the series will take place in December 2024 on the topics of (Meta)Data Standards and FAIR/CARE/TRUST Principles Adoption. Keep an eye on the RDA events page and our social media channels for updates on these.

SUMMARY:Webinar FAIR Data Principles 3 | Applying FAIR Principles through the (ocean) data management value chain
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is the third in a series of three Blue-Cloud 2026 Training Academy webinars on FAIR* Data Principles. \nREGISTER NOW \nFollowing on from our Blue-Cloud 2026 FAIR Data Principles 1 (Sep 2023) and 2  (Apr 2024) webinars\, the upcoming third webinar is dedicated to exploring the practical application of FAIR Principles throughout the entire data value chain. This comprehensive focus will encompass every stage\, from the collection of data and transmission (e.g sensors) through its processing\, curation\, and application in various products and services. The session will feature real-world use case experiences\, showcasing how these principles are effectively implemented across different stages to enhance data utility and integrity. \nThe webinar aims to broaden the understanding of FAIR Principles beyond their traditional association with research and academic environments. It will highlight their relevance and growing significance in industry and other sectors\, demonstrating how adopting these principles can drive innovation\, efficiency and collaboration across different domains.   Participants will gain insights into how best practices can be leveraged to optimize data management processes and facilitate interoperability between systems. \nBy presenting a range of sector-specific examples and use cases\, the webinar will illustrate the tangible benefits of implementing FAIR Principles in real-word scenarios. This includes not only improving the accessibility of data but also ensuring its long-term usability\, interoperability and compatibility with various technologies and standards. It offers perspectives on how to effectively integrate FAIR Principles into data management strategies to maximize the value and potential  of data in various contexts. \nWho should attend\nOpen science projects in Europe and beyond\, Research teams in Research Infrastructures\, Ocean Data community\, Industry sector\, amongst others. \nAgenda (available soon)\nWednesday 27 November 2024; 15.00 CET \nChair: Sara Pittonet Gaiarin\, Trust-IT Services and Blue-Cloud Coordinator \n  \n  \n*About FAIR \nThe FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific data management and stewardship were first published in Scientific Data\, 3:160018 [Wilkinson et al (2016)]. The principles apply to both data and metadata and are: Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\, Reusable. They put specific emphasis on enhancing the ability of machines to automatically find and use the data\, in addition to supporting its reuse by individuals. In pursuit of FAIR\, there is a need for increased efforts in optimisation\, standardisation\, best practices and harmonisation across methodologies for ocean data management\, applications and digital assets \n\nCheck out the Blue-Cloud Training Academy
