SUMMARY:Open science and the futures of research assessment
DESCRIPTION:This Futures Dialogue will explore how research assessment systems can evolve to reward openness\, collaboration\, and societal impact in line with open science principles \n\n\n\nOpen science is about ensuring that the benefits of science are shared across the world and that all communities can contribute to scientific development. While digital tools and infrastructure can greatly facilitate access to scientific knowledge\, open science also includes broad stakeholders and society’s engagement and dialogue with other knowledge systems. \nReform of research assessment is increasingly framed as a condition for open science rather than a parallel agenda. The UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science calls for barriers to open science to be removed\, particularly those arising from research and career evaluation and award systems\, and states that assessment rewarding good open science practices is “needed for operationalization of open science”. \nThis Futures Dialogue focuses on how research assessment reform can enable open science\, and what it would take to move from commitment to practice. Panel experts and members of UNESCO Chairs\, UNITWIN Networks\, National Commissions\, and other experts will address the following questions: \n\nWhich contributions to research go unrecognized in assessment today\, and what place should they have in the future of research assessment and science policies?\nHow do current assessment practices influence what researchers publish\, and with what consequences for researchers in different science systems?\nWhose research\, and what kinds of knowledge\, do current assessment systems leave out?\nWhich reforms have changed practices\, and which have stayed on paper? How would we know whether research assessment reforms are enabling open science?

SUMMARY:Building the EOSC Federation: Progress\, Practice and Lessons from across Europe
DESCRIPTION:How is the EOSC Federation taking shape across Europe\, and what opportunities does it offer researchers\, research organisations and the wider research and innovation community? \nINSPIRING ERA invites you to join a European online event on 22 October 2026\, 14:30–16:30 CEST\, organised in collaboration with the EOSC Association. \nThe European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is a key European initiative supporting Open Science and strengthening the European Research Area. At its heart\, the emerging EOSC Federation is connecting research data\, services and infrastructures across Europe\, making it easier for researchers to discover\, access and use resources across borders and disciplines. For researchers\, research organisations\, funders and policymakers\, it has the potential to change how knowledge and research resources are shared and used across Europe. \nAs the EOSC Federation enters its implementation phase\, understanding what it offers is becoming increasingly relevant across the European research and innovation community. This online INSPIRING ERA event will take stock of progress and explore what the Federation means in practice for different parts of the research and innovation community. \nBringing together perspectives from European policy\, the EOSC community\, EOSC Nodes and research\, the event will share practical experiences and emerging lessons from across Europe. It will consider the value the Federation can offer to researchers and research organisations\, alongside the opportunities and challenges associated with its continued development and wider uptake across the European Research Area. \nThe event is aimed at a broad European research and innovation audience\, including researchers and research organisations\, policymakers\, funders\, research managers\, Open Science and research data professionals\, and research infrastructure and e-infrastructure providers. \nREGISTER TO ATTEND \nRegistered participants will receive the Zoom link to the event directly from INSPIRING ERA. If you have any queries\, please email: info@inspiring-era.eu \nOrganised by INSPIRING ERA in collaboration with the EOSC Association this event is part of a series of online events supporting the implementation of the European Research Area Policy Agenda.

SUMMARY:Course 5: Service Policies for Onboarding to the EOSC Federation
DESCRIPTION:This course introduces all relevant aspects of EOSC policies\, both for the enrolment of nodes and the onboarding of resources and services. It presents the overall context and the minimum policies required by the EOSC Federation\, focusing on the Resources and Services Onboarding Policy\, and the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and the User Access Policy (UAP). It provides concrete examples of existing policies for onboarding of services and other resources among the different types of Nodes available to date: e-infrastructure nodes\, national nodes\, thematic nodes. It also introduces the Node Registration Policy describing the minimum steps a Node can implement. \n\n\n\n\n\nCourse summary\n\nThis course provides a practical introduction to the policies and processes supporting the onboarding of resources and services and the enrolment of autonomous Nodes into the EOSC Federation. Drawing on the work and guidelines of the EOSC EU Node\, it explains the minimum policy requirements and how they can inform the development or adaptation of policies within different Node contexts. \nParticipants will explore the policies and workflows for onboarding resources and services and registering autonomous Nodes within the EOSC Federation. The training covers the EOSC EU Node’s Resources and Services Onboarding Policy\, Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)\, and User Access Policy (UAP)\, helping learners draft new policies and align legacy ones with the current Federation context. Through practical examples from e-infrastructure\, national\, and thematic Nodes\, participants will examine provider engagement\, onboarding workflows\, approval procedures\, roles and responsibilities\, and lessons learnt. The course also introduces Node registration processes and technical integration requirements\, including the EOSC Interoperability Framework (EOSC IF) and AARC Blueprint-compliant AAI proxies\, supporting learners in adapting policies and workflows to their own Node operations. \nBy the end of the course\, learners will be equipped to: \n\nDraft or adapt onboarding policies\, including legacy policies\, in line with EOSC EU Node requirements\nDefine onboarding workflows\, approval procedures\, and roles and responsibilities\, drawing on practical examples and lessons learnt from established Nodes\nExplain Node registration processes and associated technical integration requirements\, including the EOSC Interoperability Framework (EOSC IF) and AARC Blueprint-compliant AAI proxies\n\nThe course supports learners in developing and adapting policies and workflows tailored to their own Node operations within the EOSC Federation. \n\nBy the end of this course\, learners will be able to:\n\n\nExplain the purpose and scope of the policies governing resource and service onboarding within the EOSC Federation;\nIdentify how new and legacy onboarding policies can be aligned with EOSC EU Node requirements;\nOutline an onboarding workflow\, including provider engagement\, roles and responsibilities\, and approval procedures;\nApply lessons from established Nodes to drafting or adapting their own onboarding policies;\nDescribe Node registration processes and associated technical integration requirements.
