SUMMARY:OSCARS 1st Open Call for Open Science Projects and Services
DESCRIPTION:The aim of the call is to support researchers engaging in or developing Open Data Research by conducting science projects that facilitate and foster sharing research data and results based on FAIR principles. Proposals that develop and/or make available services or tools (software; hardware; middleware; protocols; standards; benchmarks; documentation and training/mentoring materials; activities and resources)\, which enable Open Research in a field and encourage open science practice based on FAIR principles\, are also eligible. \nOpen Science Projects or Open Science Services are research activities that exploit or foster the adoption of FAIR data\, strengthen FAIR competences\, practices and technologies. They are expected to leverage and/or exploit the Science Clusters’ services aimed at demonstrating and piloting the use of EOSC resources. They can be cross-RI and/or cross-domain as well as projects with a high societal relevance (potentially multidisciplinary and/or cross-cluster). These projects can be proposed over a large spectrum of scientific domains\, including industrial sectors. Therefore\, they can be submitted by organisations/researchers beyond the current group of RIs that are partners within the Science Clusters\, emerging RIs or recently included in the updated ESFRI Road map. They can involve engagement with academic groups and industry\, University Associations/Learned Societies\, citizen scientists and the long tail of science. \nThe Principal Investigators of these activities have to commit to the FAIR management of the achieved scientific results and all associated digital objects. A particular attention will be reserved for relevant datasets from RIs\, the innovative software and services for interoperability and legacy of data. Projects must deposit the digital research data generated in the Science Clusters’ trusted catalogues or other trusted repositories federated in the EOSC. The projects should aim at enhancing the involvement of researchers in Open Science.

SUMMARY:2nd open call for Route 1 expert (non-financial) support (OPEN)
DESCRIPTION:Support programme for repositories and data service providers\nThe FAIR Principles focus on characteristics of digital objects that make them Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable and Reusable. Achieving and maintaining those characteristics depends on the individuals and organisations that create\, store\, curate\, and preserve the objects. These activities are ‘FAIR-enabling’\, and repositories and data service providers play an important role in facilitating them. \nFAIR-IMPACT is here to help repositories and data service providers  assess your current FAIR-enabling capabilities and develop action plans to improve them. We will introduce you to services and tools that address a wide range of topics\, such as: \n\nRepository policy\, e.g. ACME-FAIR\, Data support policy for photon and neutron science;\nMaking objects in the repository more FAIR\, e.g. CESSDA Data Archiving Guide\, FAIR Cookbook;\nAutomated FAIR assessment\, e.g. F-UJI\, Framework for assessing FAIR services;\nRepository certification\, e.g. CoreTrustSeal+FAIRenabling Capability Maturity Model\, FAIRsFAIR repository support.\n\nWe go beyond the formal FAIR principles and also include guidance for effective strategies to engage with your community and position your organisation in the research landscape. In other words\, we are here to make your organisation more successful.

SUMMARY:SRIA 2.0 Community Consultation
DESCRIPTION:The development and deployment of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is a continuous and rapidly evolving process directed by the European co-programmed Partnership for EOSC. \nThe EOSC Partnership’s Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) defines the general framework for future research\, development\, and innovation activities in relation to EOSC\, and will serve as the Partnership’s guiding document for the coming four years. \nRecent developments in relation to EOSC have been considerable and are increasing in speed\, giving rise to the need to formulate a new SRIA to guide the further development. The process to accomplish this will run throughout 2024. The new document will become SRIA 2.0 and will be the basis for the development of EOSC going forward. SRIA 2.0 will be especially important in its impact on EOSC for the period post-2027\, when the implementation and operation of EOSC will move forward under the guidance of a new governance structure. \nLink to the Survey: https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/outlineofEOSCSRIA2

SUMMARY:How to: Aufbau eines institutionellen OER-Ökosystems - Einblicke in Open Educational Resources an der Universität Wien

SUMMARY:The WorldFAIR Project: The journey so far and next steps
DESCRIPTION:This special double session co-located with the RDA Virtual Plenary 22 is designed to show case the outputs from the WorldFAIR project and to discuss next steps. The event is open to all; you do not need to be a member of the WorldFAIR consortium to join. \nWorldFAIR has a number of distinctive features that are worthy of attention and will be of interest to the RDA community.  WorldFAIR is a two-year European Commission funded project to advance the implementation of the FAIR principles.  Coordinated by CODATA and with the RDA as an important partner\, WorldFAIR has the distinction of being a genuinely global project and – thanks to special EC rules – has funded partners from around the world. \nThe core of the WorldFAIR project are the 11 case studies\, which represent a wide range of sciences\, communities and challenges\, with global geographical coverage. These were identified from groups active in CODATA\, RDA or both.  Among the partners in these case studies are number of organisations that play an important role in articulating and agreeing metadata and terminology standards for researchers in various domains. The first session will explore the outputs from these case studies and in particular the recommendations made.  A selection of the Case Studies will describe their work\, their experience of using FIPs and will articulate key recommendations for the use of metadata standards and terminologies and structured around the most important themes and issues encountered. \nThe second session will focus on one of the key outputs of WorldFAIR: the Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework (CDIF). CDIF provides a set of guidelines and practice for using domain-agnostic standards to support the interoperability and reusability of FAIR data\, especially across domain and institutional boundaries.  CDIF has been developed based on input from WorldFAIR’s 11 case studies\, including their FIPs\, a series of dedicated meetings\, and the participation of all the case studies in two successive workshops hosted at the Leibniz Foundation’s Dagstuhl Centre. Thirty invited experts have participated in drafting the CDIF guidelines\, including members of many related FAIR initiatives and standards bodies\, and has therefore\, drawn on significant expertise both within and outside the WorldFAIR project.  This session will present the key CDIF ‘modules’ which cover the most important functional areas for using data across domains: discovery\, integration\, controlled vocabularies and mappings\, provenance and process description\, temporal and spatial description\, etc. \nBoth sessions will invite feedback and discuss activities to continuing this work beyond the lifetime of the EC funded project under the banner of WorldFAIR+

SUMMARY:Natural Scientific Language Processing and Research Knowledge Graphs
DESCRIPTION:The Extended Semantic Web Conference is a major venue for discussing the latest scientific results and technology innovations around semantic technologies. Building on its past success\, ESWC is seeking to broaden its focus to span other relevant related research areas in which Web semantics plays an important role. \nThe goal of the Semantic Web is to create a Web of knowledge and services in which the semantics of content is made explicit and content is linked to both other content and services allowing novel applications to combine content from heterogeneous sites in unforeseen ways and support enhanced matching between users needs and content. This network of knowledge-based functionality will weave together a large network of human knowledge\, and make this knowledge machine-processable to support intelligent behaviour by machines. Creating such an interlinked Web of knowledge which spans unstructured text\, structured data  as well as multimedia content and services requires the collaboration of many disciplines\, including but not limited to: Artificial Intelligence\, Natural Language Processing\, Databases and Information Systems\, Information Retrieval\, Machine Learning\, Multimedia\, Distributed Systems\, Social Networks\, Web Engineering\, and Web Science. These complementarities are reflected in the outline of the technical program of the ESWC 2024. ESWC 2024 will present the latest results in research\, technologies and applications in its field. Besides the technical program organized over numerous tracks\, the conference will feature a workshop and tutorial program\, system descriptions and demos\, a posters exhibition and a doctoral symposium. \nAll information on the ESWC conference series and past conferences can be found at www.eswc-conferences.org.

SUMMARY:Your Work | Your Choice.

SUMMARY:European Maritime Day
DESCRIPTION:Established in 2008\, European Maritime Day (EMD) is the annual EU meeting point on maritime affairs and sustainable blue growth\, and the place where ‘Ocean Leaders Meet’ as the slogan goes. It is also a public event reaching out to young people and citizens across Europe through local events. \nEMD has not only enabled many project partnerships and co-operations among stakeholders\, but it has also contributed to getting the need for sustainable management of ocean resources higher on the EU’s agenda. \nStakeholders generally find the European Maritime Day a great opportunity to touch base with strategic partners\, make new contacts and network\, get visibility for their projects\, ideas\, activities and achievements\, gain new insights into the evolving EU policy and funding landscape and provide input into European Maritime Policy formulation. \nEuropean Maritime Day takes place every year at the end of May. The conference takes place in a different EU country each year\, see the current list until 2029 below. The cities are selected following a call for interest launched by the Council of Ministers every five years. The latest call took place in 2022. \nThe call for expressions of interest for exhibitors will be launched early 2024. \nBlue-Cloud 2026 at the European Maritime Day\nBlue-Cloud 2026 will take part to the event with a workshop on Observations to knowledge: Unlocking Ocean Insights. The workshop aims to explore the intricate connection between AI technologies\, data governance\, and policymaking within marine ecosystems\, and how collaborative efforts among initiatives like Blue-Cloud\, iMagine\, SeaDataNet\, and EuroGOOS address them. In addition\, the audience can discover how they cooperate effectively to avoid duplication in efforts and enhance data quality. These discussions harness the collective expertise of the initiatives\, reinforcing their position as leaders in advancing operational oceanography for comprehensive marine knowledge. \nThe initiatives involved\, fully or partially funded by the EC\, gather data from European research infrastructures that cover diverse European countries and sea-basins. Moreover\, the initiatives foster a shared commitment to advancing technology\, sustainability\, and economic resilience in the maritime domain\, contributing to the overarching goals of the EU in this sector.
