SUMMARY:Series of webinars: The Data Act in contracts
DESCRIPTION:Help us develop model contractual terms for data sharing and standard contractual clauses for switching between data processing services (cloud computing contracts) by sharing your opinion. \n\n\n\nBefore the Data Act starts applying from 12 September 2025\, the Commission will recommend model contractual terms for data access and use and standard contractual clauses for cloud computing. The Commission has set up an Expert Group to develop these models\, which will form the basis for the Commission Recommendation in 2025. These models intend to help especially small and medium-size companies and other organisations which may lack resources to draft and negotiate fair contractual clauses for data sharing or for cloud computing. \nIn November and December 2024\, the Commission will be hosting a series of 6 webinars with businesses\, policymakers\, lawyers\, and experts to discuss the development of both the draft Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for cloud computing contracts and the draft Model Contractual Terms (MCTs) for data sharing. \nThe webinars are open to Member State authorities\, companies\, lawyers\, professors\, and organisations. You can register via the links below to take part in the discussions and help shape the contracts. Note that registrations will only be accepted if a professional email address is provided. \nFollowing registration\, participants will receive a Webex link and relevant documentation to support the discussion (including draft model terms and clauses) a few days before the event. \nWebinars\n20 November – Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)\nThis webinar will cover SCCs implementing the provisions of the Data Act: Switching and Exit\, Termination\, Security and business continuity. Registration fom \n21 November –  Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)\n\nThis webinar will cover SCCs on Liability\, Non-amendment\, Non-dispersion. Registration form \n27 November  – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThe topics covered in this webinar includes the contract between data holders and data users\, as well as the data use by the data holder\, arrangements for access to data by the user\, and transfer of the connected product to successors. Registration form \n28 November – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThe topics covered in this webinar includes the contract between data holders and data recipients but also the link with the user’s request\, the contract between the data recipient and the user\, as well as the ways in which data can be accessed by the data recipient. Registration form \n4 December – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThis webinar will cover the reasonable compensation for making data available agreed between data holders and data recipients under the Data Act\, as well as a possible compensation for the user in exchange of access and use of the data by the data holder in certain circumstances (for example when the user agrees not to share the data with other entities). Registration form \n5 December – Model Contractual Terms (MCTs)\nThis webinar covers voluntary data sharing and is relevant for bilateral or multilateral data sharing agreements but also for the use of MCTs in data spaces. Registration form

SUMMARY:3rd Open Call for Financial Support
DESCRIPTION:The final open call for financial (Route 2) support is open for applications from 9th October to 4th December 2024. Applicants can apply to join the following support actions.\n  \n\n\n\n #1: Managing data types\, schemas and vocabularies and crosswalks for FAIR researcher related metadata \nThe support action will introduce successful applicants to three tools developed by the FAIRCORE4EOSC (FC4E) project. These include the Data Type Registry (DTR)\, vocabulary service\, and Metadata Schema and Crosswalk Registry (MSCR).  \nIn this support action the participants will use one or more of the FC4E tools to enhance the machine-actionability of their existing schema and crosswalk specifications. This could mean for example the registration of schema from public APIs to the MSCR and creation of mappings from those service specific data models to common formats such as Datacite and DCAT or creating a metadata schema using enriched schema elements registered in the DTR. \nSuccessful applicants will receive 5000 € to support their participation.  \nLearn more and apply \n  \n\n\n\n#2: Creating EOSC compliant interoperability policies based on EOSC Interoperability Framework (IF) \nOne of the main concerns when we deploy a service\, especially those related to data\, is how this service can work with others. This is relevant for services to be integrated in the EOSC ecosystem. The creation of the EOSC IF is an effort to analyse the gaps and problems addressed in this context. Also\, it provides recommendations to improve this integration. One of the main challenges is to translate these recommendations into specific actions. This question is addressed in the work being done by FAIR IMPACT in the context of the production of interoperability guidelines. \nIn this support action\, successful applicants will analyse the interoperability status of their services using tools such as the Compliance Assessment Tool (CAT). After this analysis\, we will identify actions that they can carry out to improve the interoperability of their services based on the guidelines provided. \nSuccessful applicants will receive 5000 € to support their participation.  \nLearn more and apply \n  \n\n#3: Testing the trustworthy and FAIR-enabling repositories prototype\nFAIR-enabling and trustworthy data repositories play a central role in making and keeping data FAIR over time. While there is ongoing debate on what constitutes trustworthiness\, there is broad agreement that transparency and evidence is essential to enable end users to make informed decisions about the repository services they use. In this support action successful applicants will have the opportunity to test a prototype developed by FAIR-IMPACT to expose relevant metadata at the organisational and object level. \nSuccessful applicants will receive 5000 € to support their participation.  \nLearn more and apply \n  \n\n#4: Implementation of a shared API for semantic catalogues \nA lot of valuable information in the form of ontologies\, vocabularies\, etc. are publicly available and are contained in numerous catalogues. Our aim is to facilitate increasing the FAIRness (Findability\, Accessibility\, Interoperability and Reusability) of these catalogues via the use of a common data model to describe the holdings of the catalogues as well as the adoption of a common Application Programming Interface (API) to query the catalogues. \nWe invite Semantic Artefact Catalogue (SAC) providers to apply to join this support action to implement an API based on the Metadata for Ontology Description and Publication (MOD) ontology to promote interoperability and enhance access to SACs. This API enables a uniform interface to semantic artefacts (SA)\, enabling seamless querying by stakeholders\, regardless of domain. This open call is an opportunity for SACs to participate in a community-driven effort to improve the FAIRness of their resources through the adoption of this API. \nSuccessful applicants will receive 8000 € to support their participation.  \nLearn more and apply \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpen call details\n\n\n\nSupport actions announced via website\n30 September 2024\n\n\nWebinar to showcase the support actions on offer and \nWatch the recording\n09 October 2024 14-15 CEST\n\n\nGrant platform open for applications\n11 October 2024\n\n\nInformal virtual clinic for potential applicants to ask questions about the support actions and application process \nAttend the Webinar\n13 November  2024\, 14-15 CET\n\n\nDeadline for applications to join support actions\n4 December 2024\n\n\nEvaluation and selection of applicants\nend of December 2024\n\n\nApplicants informed of decision\n8 January 2025\n\n\nExpected start date for support actions\nmid to late January 2025 (see each support action for specific dates)\n\n\n\n  \nDo you have questions? Please check our FAQs \n  \nIf you still have questions about the support actions and open calls please contact opencalls[at]fair-impact.eu.

SUMMARY:Conference and course on data sharing and secondary data analysis in child and youth well-being research
DESCRIPTION:A two day face-to-face conference on data sharing and secondary data analysis in child and youth wellbeing research will be held on 9th and 10th December 2024 in Zagreb\, Croatia\, along with a one-day statistical course on how to access and compare data from different sources on 11th December 2024.  \n\n\n\nWe invite researchers\, policy practitioners\, data analysts\, curators and archivists from academic\, government and NGO sectors who are working on topics related to child and youth wellbeing to participate in the conference and attend the course. The conference will provide an opportunity to present participants’ own work\, exchange experiences\, learn about secondary data analysis\, and understand how to safely share data. The course will demonstrate how existing data can be accessed and will showcase procedures for combining and visualising data from different sources. \n\n\n\nBoth events are free of charge. Additionally\, travel and accommodation costs may be reimbursed up to an amount of 700 EUR per person (see eligibility criteria below). \n\n\n\nApplication process\n\n\nPlease apply for the events using the following Application form. Applications will remain open until 25th October 2024.  \n\n\n\nConference overview\n\n\nThe main objective of the conference is to showcase existing efforts in secondary data analysis for research and policy development\, and to discuss the benefits and challenges of data-sharing practices in the field of child and youth wellbeing. Selected project results aimed at facilitating access to existing data\, such as the Child Wellbeing Variable Database\, Harmonisation Toolbox\, Catalogue of Research Data on Child Wellbeing\, and Data Sharing Guidelines for researchers\, will be presented. \n\n\n\nThe conference will feature oral presentations and panel discussions covering the following topics: \n\n\n\nSecondary data analysis for research or policy development\nResearch datasets with potential for secondary use\nData sharing infrastructures.\n\n\n\n\nStatistical course overview\n\n\nThe one-day\, hands-on statistical course will equip participants with essential skills for accessing\, combining\, comparing\, and visualising data from different sources. These skills are especially useful in the context of informing public policies related to child and youth wellbeing. Participants will learn practical techniques for obtaining secondary datasets efficiently. The Microsoft Power Query tool\, along with Excel\, will be used for transforming and merging data from various sources. Creating and publicly sharing data visualisations will be demonstrated using Tableau Public. \n\n\n\nEligibility and selection criteria for cost reimbursements\n\n\n\nTo be eligible for cost reimbursement\, applicants must meet the following criteria: \n\n\n\nTheir interests must align with the aims of the COORDINATE project\, particularly in child and youth wellbeing.\nThey must have a contract or affiliation with a recognised academic or public institution\, or a not-for-profit organisation based in an EU member state or an associated country.\nApplicants from outside the EU or associated countries can apply to attend but are not eligible for financial support.\nPhD students are eligible to apply; however\, master’s or bachelor’s students are not.\n\n\n\nPriority in funding will be given to applicants: \n\nWho apply for both the conference and the course\, as well as those who submit a proposal for an oral presentation (although attending only the conference is not disqualifying\, as more seats are available for the conference than for the course).\nWho have not previously received support from any COORDINATE project activities.\nFrom countries with less developed research data infrastructures for the social sciences\, especially in Southeast Europe\, and those affiliated with or partnering with CESSDA.\nGender balance will be considered during the selection process.\n\n\n\n\nResearchers from COORDINATE partner institutions who are not directly involved in the project are eligible to apply. However\, as the project’s objective is to widen the network of researchers using child wellbeing data\, a limited number of places will be awarded to applicants from partner institutions. \n\n\nOrganiser\n\n\n\nThe events are organised by CROSSDA –  the Croatian Social Science Data Archive. \n\n\nIf you have questions about the events\, please write at data.archive@ffzg.hr.

SUMMARY:Global consultation: Developing data policies for crisis facilitated by open science
DESCRIPTION:UNESCO in partnership with the Committee on Data (CODATA) is launching a consultation to explore how the principles of open science could guide efficient policies for data sharing in times of crisis.\n\n\n\nAs the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent disasters and geopolitical conflicts have revealed\, deficiencies in the capacity of science to integrate data readily and efficiently into crisis preparation\, response\, and recovery policy and actions significantly limit the capacity of scientists and policymakers to have full information. \nUNESCO has partnered with the Committee on Data (CODATA) of the International Science Council (ISC) to explore how the principles of open science as outlined in the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science could guide efficient and effective policies for data sharing in times of crisis taking into account existing international policies and action frameworks. \nThe UNESCO-CODATA Data Policy for Times of Crisis Facilitated by Open Science (DPTC) project aims at developing guidance and tools for data policy required to address crises within the framework of the UNESCO Open Science Recommendation. The DPTC’s work is designed to contribute to the UNESCO Open Science Toolkit. \nComprising a factsheet\, a guidance document\, and a checklist for data policies for times of crisis facilitated by open science\, these resources are intended to assist policymakers\, scientists and other stakeholders to design the most efficient data policies for times of crisis not only addressing immediate response needs but also preparedness and long-term recovery. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nShare your inputs and comments\n\n\nUNESCO and CODATA are inviting all interested stakeholders to review and provide feedback as well as sharing comments and other inputs to the following three documents: \n\nFactsheet for developing data policies for times of crisis facilitated by open science\nGuidance for the development of data policies for times of crisis facilitated by open science\nChecklist for developing data policies for times of crisis facilitated by open science\n\nShare your feedback by downloading the PDFs and commenting directly on the PDFs or as text\, and emailing it to openscience@unesco.org . \nThe deadline for comments is Monday 16 December 2024. Your participation and contributions are sincerely appreciated. \nShould you have any questions or require further information\, please contact us at openscience@unesco.org  \nPlease place in the subject line of your e-mail the following: “Feedback on data policies for times of crisis” \nMore information: \n\nUNESCO Recommendation on Open Science\nUNESCO Open Science Toolkit \nUNESCO-CODATA Working Group on Data Policies for Times of Crises
