SUMMARY:LAUNCH EVENT - 2nd OSCARS Open Call for Open Science projects
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you to the launch event of the OSCARS 2nd Open Call for Open Science projects and services\, to be held online\, on Friday\, 15 November 2024\, from 11:00 to 12:30 CET. \nThis is the last of the two calls (total worth ~16 million EUR) foreseen in the frame of the OSCARS project to support research communities from any scientific domain to take up open science and foster the involvement of scientists in EOSC. \nThe 1st OSCARS Open Call concluded in July resulting in a total of 58 projects being selected for funding (read more). Some of them will be presented during the event. \nResearchers from all scientific disciplines are welcome to apply to the 2nd OSCARS Open Call before January 15th\, 2025\, with proposals for the development of Open Science projects or services\, that together will drive the uptake of FAIR-data-intensive research throughout the European Research Area (ERA). \nProjects are funded with a lump sum between 100\,000 EUR and 250\,000 EUR\, and can be proposed in the fields of any of the Science Clusters and beyond\, by any researcher or group of researchers. \nBy the end of OSCARS\, it is expected that a series of valuable scientific results and services will be available\, leading to an increased uptake of Open Science by researchers and to promote cross-border and cross-domain cooperation in the long run. \nDuring the event\, participants will learn more about the scope and content of the call\, and will be welcome to raise any question about the call and the application process.

SUMMARY:Shaping resilient futures: Open science and data policies for crisis preparedness\, response\, and recovery
DESCRIPTION:The escalating frequency and severity of health emergencies\, natural hazards\, disasters\, and geopolitical crises underscore the critical need for evidence-based approaches to preparedness\, response\, and recovery. These crises have far-reaching humanitarian impacts\, disrupting lives and livelihoods worldwide and necessitating coordinated\, timely interventions across local\, national\, regional\, and global levels. In response\, UNESCO has partnered with the Committee on Data (CODATA) of the International Science Council (ISC) to explore how the principles of open science\, as articulated in the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science\, can inform the development of effective policies for data collection\, analysis\, and sharing during crises. This initiative aligns with existing international frameworks and policies\, emphasizing the role of open science in fostering resilient and informed responses. As part of this effort\, the UNESCO-CODATA Data Policies for Times of Crisis Facilitated by Open Science (DPTC) project has produced practical resources\, including a factsheet\, a guidance document\, and a checklist. These tools\, integrated into the UNESCO Open Science Toolkit\, are designed to facilitate the implementation of the UNESCO Open Science Recommendation and empower stakeholders to adopt robust data practices for crisis management. This webinar will present key findings from UNESCO’s global consultation on crisis data policies and showcase the resources developed to support open\, transparent\, and reliable data governance in times of crisis.

SUMMARY:Leitfaden zur digitalen Datensparsamkeit – Vorstellung und Diskussion
(2024). O-Bib. SUMMARY:A European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage – Innovative tools for advanced data enrichment
DESCRIPTION:ExpectedOutcome:\nProjects should contribute to all of the following expected outcomes: \n\nThe European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH) is widely used by European cultural heritage professionals and researchers[1] for metadata enrichment of digital cultural heritage objects[2].\nScientific and professional value as well as intellectual property and other associated rights are effectively embedded in the digital objects of the ECCCH throughout the digital content production chain\, thus enabling and boosting cooperation\, sharing and re-use.\nEuropean cultural heritage professionals and researchers are aware and make use of new collaboration- and business models based on values and rights embedded in the digital objects throughout the multi-actor value chain.\nEuropean cultural heritage professionals and researchers are provided with clear information as well as targeted training modules on the innovative tools and methods developed.\n\nScope:\nThis topic aims at developing and implementing a set of innovative tools and methods on the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH) for advanced data enrichment. Concrete applications of these tools and methods should be provided for at least the following uses: \n\nMetadata enrichment\nEmbedding scientific and professional value as well as IP and other associated rights throughout the digital content production chain\nCollaboration- and business models based on the multi-actor value chain

SUMMARY:BERD Academy: Open Education for Research with (unstructured) Business\, Economics and Related Data
DESCRIPTION:Big Data took the world by storm\, Artificial Intelligence has become a hot topic across research disciplines. Working with these data can be a challenge. Especially for researchers in Business\, Economics and Social Sciences\, who graduated just a few years ago when most study programs covered mainly or exclusively ‘traditional’ data collection methods such as surveys with structured\, tabular data. To unlock the research potential of new data sources by applying fitting methods\, education is needed. The BERD Academy is the training outlet of the consortium for Business\, Economics\, and Related Data in the National Research Data Infrastructure (BERD@NFDI). In this talk\, we will present how a wide range of offers in flexible formats fulfills the needs of researchers and research data providers. We want to discuss\, how educational content can unlock research potential and how open education can foster open science.
