Talks Underway: Toward an Austrian EOSC Node

On 11 July 2025 the BMWFW, the ACOnet Association as well as representatives from the EOSC Support Office Austria’s Steering Committee initiated discussions regarding the establishment of a National EOSC Node in Austria as response to European developments.

The meeting began with an update on recent developments in the build-up phase of the EOSC Federation, followed by an overview of planned activities at the European level. It then continued with structured discussions focused on two main topics: first, the development of a requirements profile to define the fundamental purpose and key strengths of a future Austrian EOSC Node and second, governance considerations, specifically, which institutions might be best suited to take on central roles in establishing and operating such a Node at the national level.

A growing consensus emerged around the importance of moving forward, and the discussions to date underline a shared commitment to taking concrete steps toward the establishment of a National EOSC Node. In the coming months, the EOSC Support Office Austria, through its Secretariat, will engage with its partners and other Austrian institutions to continue this process and gather the input needed for the preparatory phase.
