On 18 November 2025, the EOSC Support Office Austria held its 5th General Assembly at TUtheSky, TU Wien, in Vienna. Alongside regular agenda items – such as reviewing the past period and electing EOSC SOA positions and Working Groups – participants received the latest updates on the status of an EOSC Node Austria and discussed potential next steps for its development.

Welcoming the EOSC Federation, a major milestone for open science
The demonstration of an operational EOSC Federation, celebrated during the EOSC Symposium 2025 in Brussels, marks a major step toward the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) vision turning into reality. 13 candidate EOSC Nodes demonstrated scientific use cases, based on their connection among each other and together with the EOSC EU Node managed by the European Commission.

Securing European Digital Sovereignty in Research
EOSC-A President Klaus Tochtermann took part in a panel discussion during the STOA Round Table at the European Parliament today. During his talk, Tochtermann highlighted that EOSC is not a new system. It aims to connect infrastructures that already exist in Europe to provide seamless access to data and services, following Open Science principles.

Future Horizon Europe proposals and EOSC
The European Commission (EC) published its much-anticipated proposals last week for the Multi-Annual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028-2034 and related programmes, including the 10th Research and Innovation Framework Programme, Horizon Europe. An initial assessment points to several encouraging signs that EOSC fits into the EC’s future outlook.

VisConnect – AI-driven research assessment for a new era
We are excited to introduce VisConnect, a new service by Open Knowledge Maps that enables responsible, evidence-based research assessment. VisConnect supports institutions to move beyond traditional metrics by offering rich, visual profiles of researchers. On 26 and 27 June 2025, the European Commission invited representatives of 33 Horizon Europe projects to Brussels who are working on the development of the European Open Science Cloud as part of the INFRAEOSC funding programme. The EOSC is intended to deepen the European Research Area by making research data accessible across Europe. With the establishment of the EOSC EU Node in October 2024, the selection of the first 13 Candidate Nodes in a lengthy selection process, and the establishment of the EOSC Federation Build-up Group, the EOSC has entered its build-up phase.
Skills4EOSC Final Conference : recordings, presentations, and photos now available!
The final conference of the Skills4EOSC project, "Building Capacity for Open Science", took place on 11 June 2025 at Campus Condorcet in Paris. The event marked an inspiring moment of reflection and future vision, bringing together researchers, policymakers, trainers, and institutional stakeholders from across Europe.
Milestone Meeting: Inside the 10th EOSC General Assembly
On 27–28 May 2025, the EOSC Association community convened in Antwerp, Belgium, for its 10th General Assembly – a two-day, in-person lunch-to-lunch meeting.

On May 21–22, 2025, Brno hosted the international conference Research Data Day & EOSC National Tripartite Event, bringing together leading figures of European research, data science experts, representatives of research infrastructures, and science policy makers. The two-day programme—featuring lectures, panel discussions, expert workshops, and networking opportunities—attracted over 200 participants from 40 institutions across the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Germany, Finland, and other European countries, both in person and online.
Three new Members and two new Observers join EOSC-A
ANTWERP – The EOSC Association welcomed three new Members and two new Observers to its membership base today. The five organisations were unanimously voted into the EOSC-A family during the Association’s 10th General Assembly.
