A moderated interactive virtual round table with Karel Luyben, President of the EOSC Association.

The discussion will be moderated by Paolo Budroni, EULiST Alliance Local Coordinator at TU Wien.

The VRT will have the character of a mini-workshop and a duration comparable to a radio broadcast, in which an expert (Karel Luyben) will be led in the broadcast by a moderator. After a short introduction, Karel Luyben will present the EOSC Association and its aims for a few minutes, opening the door to a moderated discussion intended as the beginning of a possible future interaction between the EOSC Association and the EULiST Alliance.

With this VRT the EULiST Alliance is aiming at…:

• Offer a direct communication channel with one of the leading experts in the EOSC field
• Establish a communication channel with the EOSC Association
• facilitate possible future interaction between the European University Alliance EULiST and the EOSC Association
• Achieve alignment of knowledge concerning the European Open Scioence Cloud
• Promote community building within the Alliance regarding crucial Pan-European initiatives
• Foster the extended competencies of the whole Consortium beyond the ongoing project objectives
• Promote potential future training activities that could result in the possible cooperation with the EOSC Association

The moderate discussion will take place with the technical and logistical assistance of the EOSC Focus project partner TU Wien, which will be responsible for providing a take-away message of the transmission, as well as for depositing the transmission records (presentation material and recorded material in a Data Repository of the TU Wien).

Karel Luyben is Rector Magnificus Emeritus of the Delft University of Technology as of 2018. He was Rector Magnificus of the Delft University of Technology from 2010 to 2018. Before that he served as Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences for almost 12 years.

In 1983 he was appointed full professor in Biochemical Engineering at the Delft University of Technology, and from there has gained experience in research, starting a SME, research leadership and leading European organisations like the European Federation of Biotechnology, CESAER and now the European Open Science Cloud Association.

Presently he is primarily active in the domain of Open Science. Until 2023 he was National Coordinator for Open Science in the Netherlands. He was the Chairman of the Board of the Dutch Techcentre for Life Sciences for ten years and is involved with the Open Science Task Forces of CESAER and EUA since 2020.

Since 2021 he is the President of the European Open Science Cloud Association (EOSC-A).
