EOSC SOA

During the latest EOSC Coffee Lecture webinar, organized by Leibniz Information Centre for Economics (ZBW), with more than 110 participants, Professor Klaus Tochtermann, Director of the ZBW and President of the EOSC Association gave an update on current developments in the EOSC Federation. Initially, he briefly reviewed earlier EOSC Coffee Lectures, revisited the structure of the EOSC Federation, the Nodes, and earlier developments before moving on to current topics and future plans.

The EOSC Association’s General Assembly elected three new Directors to its Board of Directors during its 12th meeting on 10 December 2025.

On 18 November 2025, the EOSC Support Office Austria held its 5th General Assembly at TUtheSky, TU Wien, in Vienna. Alongside regular agenda items – such as reviewing the past period and electing EOSC SOA positions and Working Groups – participants received the latest updates on the status of an EOSC Node Austria and discussed potential next steps for its development.

Registration for the 12th General Assembly of the EOSC Association closes tomorrow, 03 December 2025, at 23:59 CET. Due to preparations for the Directors’ elections, late registrations will not be accepted.

BRUSSELS – The European Commission has published its Data Union Strategy: Unlocking Data for AI, a policy framework designed to enhance data access and sharing to accelerate AI-driven research and innovation across the EU, noting the role of EOSC in supporting scientific activities with AI in RAISE.

The demonstration of an operational EOSC Federation, celebrated during the EOSC Symposium 2025 in Brussels, marks a major step toward the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) vision turning into reality. 13 candidate EOSC Nodes demonstrated scientific use cases, based on their connection among each other and together with the EOSC EU Node managed by the European Commission.

STRASBOURG — The European Commission (EC) released its Artificial Intelligence in Science Strategy on Wednesday, 08 October 2025, which highlights the role of the EOSC Federation.

At its second annual retreat, the UN Secretary-General’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) adopted a landmark statement on open science, with the International Science Council serving as lead coordinator.

EOSC-A President Klaus Tochtermann took part in a panel discussion during the STOA Round Table at the European Parliament today. During his talk, Tochtermann highlighted that EOSC is not a new system. It aims to connect infrastructures that already exist in Europe to provide seamless access to data and services, following Open Science principles.
